Body Contouring - Liposuction
Dr Gloria de Olarte
Very Important Things to know before doing Liposuction (Lipoplasty)
Liposuction removes localized deposits of fat giving you a better contour or shape in certain areas like the abdomen, enlarged male breast, double chin, love handles, waist hips, thighs, neck, back and arms, thru very small incisions. You should be at normal weight or only mildly overweight, maybe 20% -30% above your normal weight and have a good skin tone and elasticity.
You are not a good candidate for liposuction if you are obese, also if you have stretch marks(Striae) or are over 40 years of age or your skin is wrinkled or too lax because liposuction removes the fat but does not tighten the skin. Only good quality skin will shrink after liposuction and in only small amount. Liposuction will not improve cellulite. If you have extra skin you may need additional surgery like a tummy tuck, arm lift, thigh lift, or a neck lift.
There are many different names and ways for liposuction like Liposculpture, lipoplasty, liposuction, ultrasound/laser, suction assisted lipoplasty- but all of them will remove the fat . Some liquefy it before removing it and others remove it directly. You will need to use a compression garment after liposuction. A healthy diet and exercise will help improve your results.
As you get older your skin has lost some elasticity and tone, so you may not get the same results than a younger patient. Diet and Exercise will improve the results of surgery.
Dr. de Olarte will evaluate you to see if you are a good candidate for liposuction, and which technique is better for you and which type of anesthesia will be better for you.
